A missing 87-year-old woman was found dead in a creek behind an elementary school. 

Francis Mooney was found at about 5 p.m. Wednesday, Middletown Township detectives confirm. 

A silver alert was issued at about 4 p.m. Wednesday for Mooney after she disappeared from her home about 12 hours earlier. Read more about that here.  

Authorities said Mooney, who was said to be suffering from dementia, wandered away from the home and fell in a nearby creek behind Samuel Everitt Elementary School. Her body was recovered by volunteer Middletown Township firefighters shortly after the alert was issued.

A detective on duty said they are awaiting autopy results to confirm the exact cause of death.
