Bomb Threat Made at Truman High School

Letters were sent home to parents Wednesday that a bomb threat had been made against Harry S. Truman High School.

A bomb threat has been made against Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown for tomorrow, Jan. 3.

School administrators sent letters home to parents Wednesday informing them that district security was made aware of the threat this past weekend, which was written in the boy's locker room.

Truman principal James Moore told Patch that the threat was discovered in a boy's restroom used as a locker room by student athletes during a wrestling tournament this weekend.

"We are working with our district security and township authorities including law enforcement to secure our school," Moore stated in the letter, which is attached as a PDF to this article.

The investigation into the threat is ongoing, but Moore said that Jan. 3, 2013 was cited specifically although Truman not directly mentioned.

The school will be searched Wednesday evening and, following procedure, all doors will remain locked throughout the day -- all students and parents must enter the building through its main entrance.

School officials are requesting that students not carry back packs or bags to school Thursday, Jan. 3. In addition, students will not be permitted in the school prior to 6:45 a.m.

"We have and will continue to take these things seriously and take all necessary and proper precautions to insure the safety and security of our students, staff, and community," Moore said.

I would NOT send my child to school until it was deemed safe by the authorities.

I didn't receive any letter. My son came home and told me. I think it would be a good thing if my child stayed home and didn't get charged any absent days until they were 100% positive it was safe.

I did not receive any letter. My son had to come home and tell me about this. I was also informed by a friends daughter that there was not enough letters to hand out to all the students this to me as a parent is not accatiable i do think that my son should be able to stay home untill the authorities say the school is 100% clear.

They're not going to let kids into the school unless they're confident that it's safe. They are taking every precaution, in fact the kids in Truman tomorrow will probably be the safest kids in the entire country.

But yet they let them go to school on Wed. BEFORE the building was thoroughly checked - how is that suppose to ease a parent or a students mind??

Well the person who commented just above me said, that the kids at truman tomorrow will probably be the safest kids in any school in the country ?
well when it comes to my teenagers lives ?both of them.... I decided to tell them they are not going to school tomorrow because ....... what if the searchers missed it and it explodes tomorrow ????? How many kids could die ???? 90 percent chance it is a hoax but I am NOT taking a chance with my child's life... and I will make sure it becomes an excused absence.......

I have to agree with you Wayne! I have 3 kids in Bristol Twp schools. Although I believe this may be some kids idea of a funny joke or a way to possibly get a day off school, I can not in my right mind just ignore this in case its not! I myself am worried whether the person who left the threat knew this would draw all of the authorities to Truman even though they never depicted which school it was in reference too....just the date! I refuse to take any chances with my children's lives.....even if the threat was unsubstantiated! This world has become a crazy place & you just never know anymore!!!!!! I also feel as though this should be considered an excused absence for Bristol twp!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want an answer as to WHY they would wait until after our kids went back to school on Wed. and sat through 8 periods to break this news - which the authorities were made aware of OVER THE WEEKEND?! As well as WAITING UNTIL WED. EVENING to search the school??!!!!!! Whats wrong with the authorities in this situation??!! Ive come to expect the worst from the horrible teachers at this school who dont normally think ,before they speak,, this is truly crossing the line,- why now, when a sign of the times would point to our kids lives being in very probable danger - did it take SO long for the school to be checked and the parents be made aware???
