The noises from the weekend training exercises at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey could be heard from almost 30 miles away.
Residents of Levittown Patch took to the site's Facebook page to report hearing loud "booms" over the weekend.
As reported by the Middletown Police Department, the noises were a result of training exercises at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, approximately 30 miles away in Burlington.
"What is the loud banging going on in the area? Sounds like thunder but isn't," wrote Jen Fowler Bennett.
"Anyone know what is going on with the noises that sound like thunder or explosions?" commented Megan McCormick Long.
According to nj.com, the training included the 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment; the Marine Wing Support Squadron 472; and the 2nd Battalion 25th Marine Regiment from Garden City, N.Y.
