Emergency Shelter Open in Bristol

The shelter was beginning to fill Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Cross is operating a no-pet shelter at the James A. Gallagher Senior Center located on the grounds of the Bristol Township Municipal Complex at 2501 Bath Road.

As of 4 p.m., 35 people were using the shelter and more are expected, Emergency Operations Director Kevin Dippolito said.

“Any residents feeling the need to go to the shelter are encouraged to do so,” Township Manager Bill McCauley said.

Local residents who were without power came to the shelter throughout the day, Stacey Emery of Red Cross said.

While the shelter has electricity, no shower facilities are avaiable at the building, Emery said. The YMCA in Falls, however, is offering shower facilites.

“It is important for those residents without power, to stay safe, and stay warm. The shelters have food, water, and heat, and we urge those residents who need them, to use them,” Bucks County Commissioner Robert Loughery said.

The shelter opened Tuesday evening.
