Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick on Tuesday honored local high school student who earned his recommendation to the nation's service academies.

The 27 students from across Fitzpatrick's 8th Congressional District were honored in a ceremony at the Bucks County courthouse in Doylestown.

Included among them were several students from the Levittown area: Elizabeth Goldner of Langhorne; Jonathan Earp-Pitkins and Matthew Dott, both of Levittown.

Each year, the congressman has the opportunity to nominate a select number of students to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Students must make it through a competitive application process to earn the recommendation for admission to the nation's service academies. They still must complete the application process and be accepted by the individual academies.
