Levittown Man Wins Massive $33 Million Powerball Jackpot

A Bristol Township man was the purchaser of the $50 million jackpot Powerball ticket sold in early December in Fairless Hills.

Roger Custer came forward Friday as Levittown’s newest multimillionaire.

The Stonybrook section of Bristol Township resident publicly accepted a check for $33,134,526.18 after state officials announced he was the winner of the Dec. 5 Powerball drawing.

“The best part about winning the Powerball jackpot is being able to take care of my family,” the retired Custer said in a statement. “It’s a good feeling to know that my family will never have to worry.”

Custer said he purchased the lucky ticket at Levittown News & Tobacco in Fairless Hills when he was shopping for supplies for a hunting trip.

The massive jackpot isn’t all Custer won at the store.

“I won $5 on the instant ticket and gave it to my wife. I kept the Powerball tickets in my wallet during the 5 days I was hunting,” he said.

“After I got back, a friend mentioned that the jackpot-winning ticket was sold nearby and I jokingly said, ‘I’m the winner.’ I went home, handed the ticket to my wife and said, ‘Check this and tell me how many millions we’ve won.’”

Custer’s wife began to cry and said he better not be kidding when she checked the numbers of the winning ticket.

While rumors that an employee of V & S Pizza in Fairless Hills won the Powerball prize spread throughout the town, Custer began to tell immediate family he was the real winner.

The ticket was validated Friday at the headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County after Custer brought it in.

When the news that the ticket was sold from the shop was announced on Dec. 6, customers flocked to the store to purchase Powerball tickets and congratulate the owners.

Just 16 jackpot-winning tickets have in sold in Pennsylvania since the state joined the Powerball, including Custer’s winning ticket.

Officials said the other most recent full jackpot-winning ticket sold to a group of SEPTA employees in April  2012 drawing. The group split a $107.5 million cash prize. Several of the winners were from Bucks County.

The awarding of the prize is set to change the life of the Custer family from here on out.

Custer said in a release that the prize will allow him to do a lot more hunting and fishing.
