Manor Elementary Student ‘Doodles 4 Google’

Third grade student Diya Cherian, 8, was announced as one of 40 regional finalist and is hoping to be a national finalist in the competition.

What I’d like to do someday… is the theme for this year's Doodle 4 Google contest.

Manor Elementay student third grade student Diya Cherian was inspired to draw her image after reading a book written by Cynthia Lord Rules For David. It is about a young girl and her younger brother who is autistic. Diya said when she grows up would like to help children with special needs reach their dreams.

Diya’s image titled A Chance to Dream is a drawing of children that are reaching for their dreams whether it is playing basketball from a wheelchair, becoming a ballerina, a scientist, playing a violin, becoming a teacher or reaching for the stars as an astronaut.

“I’d like to give every child a fair chance at life. Every child has dreams and every child has the right to achieve them, irrespective of physical disabilities and differences in color, race or wealth,” Diya said.

In addition to Diya’s artistic talents, she practices karate, takes piano lessons, practices Indian classical dancing and takes Indian classical singing lessons.
