Dirt Bike Rider Who Caused Accident Has DUI Past

A teenager who caused a dirt bike vs. SUV crash in Forsythia Gate in Middletown last week is facing several charges related to the wreck.

A teen from the Levittown section of Middletown Township was charged late last week in connection with a Wednesday, Oct. 17 dirt bike accident that left him and another teen injured.

Richard Costigan IV, 18, had a felony charge of causing an accident involving death or injury filed against him by police. He is also facing lesser charges of recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, driving without a license and related offenses, according to court records.

According to PhillyBurbs.com, Costigan was illegally riding his bike and had just picked up a friend when the accident happened in the area of Rain Lily Road and Forsythia Drive South. The teens were thrown from the bike in the accident and suffered several serious injuries.

The three subjects in the Kia SUV involved in the collision were unharmed, the website reported.

Costigan was forced to pay a fine, partake in highway safety classes and surrender his license after he plead guilty in July to a DUI charge. The 18-year-old was caught driving drunk by Middletown police in April.

On the day of the accident, county records were updated to show that Costigan was several weeks late on his payments for the fine related to the DUI.

Several Patch readers commented on Facebook that dirt bikes are often a problem in the Goldenridge section of Levittown in Bristol Township.
