Some Area Acme Stores to Close by December
SuperValu, the parent company of Acme Supermarkets, announces it is closing 60 under-performing stores, including the one on Trenton Ave. in Morrisville.
UPDATE: A complete list of Acme closing is now attached. The Falls Acme on New Falls Road will remain open, but the one in orrisville will close.
Corporate owner of Acmes, Supervalu Inc., announced Wednesday in a news release that it will close about 60 stores, including the Morrisville Acme at 545 West Trenton near Falls Township, that are deemed "underperforming or non-strategic."
The chain, which owns Malvern-based Acme, spared stores in Bensalem, Bristol Township, Doylestown, Horsham, Lower Southampton, Newtown Township and Warminster.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Falls Township, Sharon Hill, and Glassboro, NJ will see their Acmes close before Dec. 1, 2012. An additional Acme will close in Stevensville, MD.
Wayne Sales, SuperValu's president, said:
“These decisions are never easy because of the impact a store closure has on our team members, our customers, and our communities. Today’s announcement reflects our commitment to move with a greater sense of urgency to reduce costs and improve shareholder value.”
Acme operates 116 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, employing more than 13,000 associates, according to its website.

This is not the store on New Falls road correct? I believe it is the store at 545 West Trenton Ave, Morrisville, PA 19067 as per some other websites I have read.

Yes, thanks ... we now added the complete list of closing from the company. The New Falls road Acme will remain open, according to the list. But the Morrisville one will close.

What a darn shame. Ridiculous location to begin with. Not sure what business & location/traffic pattern studies these companies go through but those are the people that shouldn't have a job anymore not the store workers. That is certainly not good
Save-A-Lot is cheaper

Why don"t they convert all Acmes to Save-A-Lot, so we can get cheaper prices on the same products, and the stores bottom line will be better with much higher volumne? The manager told us that all private-label Save-A-Lot merchandise is identical to Acme store brand items, which obviously are overpriced at the dinosaur Acme chain.

Maybe if ACME was so overpriced to begin with they wouldn't have such a problem getting business.

Acme pays union wages and the new Walmart pays the minimum. Folks that work at Acme pay more taxes and can sustain a somewhat decent lifestyle. Your Walmart employees work a full week and still qualify for government assistance. Your taxes will pay for that and you didn't save anything!

Well who's fault is it that Acme has unions? Well that would be Acme's fault. Walmart needs a union to make things more fair for the workers but somehow Walmarts employees cant band together to even the playing field. Maybe Acme should pay good wages and the employees wouldn't need the union. Then they could compete and if they presented it that way to the workers maybe it would work.
