On Saturday, Oct. 20 the streets of Bristol Borough will be packed as thousands of people take part in the annual Historic Bristol Day celebration.

The 2012 event will feature a children's area, trolley tours, antique cars, live entertainment, sailboat regatta on the river, several exhibits, craft and food vendors and more. 

The annexation of the historic Harriman District to the borough is the theme this year, according to organizers. The district was a groundbreaking planned community built for thousands of laborers needed to construct ships during the First World War, BristolHistory.com states. 

Tours of some of the historic houses in the former Harriman District will be offered. Close to a dozen other borough buildings, including the classic-looking Bristol Fire Company (Station 51) building, will be open to the public.

"One of the borough’s historic staples is Station 51. The 100 percent volunteer organization has served residents since 1857. During the station tours, visitors will see the various Bristol Fire Company memorabilia, photos and other trinkets that stretch the company’s more than 150 years of service. Volunteers will also be on hand to give a history of Station 51," according to a release from the fire company.

“We look forward to opening our doors to the community and those who are interested in learning the rich and detailed history of the Bristol Fire Company,” Bristol Fire Company Chief Herb Slack said.

Historic Bristol Day is organized by the Bristol Borough Business Association.
