Pennsbury High School's Senior Prom has been heralded as the "best prom in America" by Reader's Digest, and this year the students hope to make it even better by having Ellen DeGeneres in attendance. The students have made a video and started the Twitter hastag #EllenToPennsburyProm in hopes to gain the attention of the Emmy-winning talk-show host and comedian. They want DeGeneres to attend the prom, which will be held on Saturday, May 18 at the high school. "This year, we want our prom to be the best prom to date," the post said. Pennsbury High School's annual prom boasting Fantasy Worlds Of Magic And Heroes is in its final days of preparation.  Art Department Chair and Faculty Prom Advisor Tony Napoli explained this year's student-picked prom theme to Levittown Patch. Thousands of spectators are expected to take part in festivities leading up to what Reader’s Digest has called the “Best Prom in America.” A public walk-through at Pennsbury High School takes place from 12 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Saturday. It will be held at the school’s East campus located at 705 Hood Boulevard in Fairless Hills. “We invite you to share in the excitement of this unique high school event that annually brings together an entire community,” Pennsbury Communication Coordinator Ann Langtry said. “I wanna run through the halls of my high school. I wanna scream at the top of my lungs,” sang Grammy-Award winning John Mayer to a gymnasium full of seniors at Pennsbury High School East Campus on May 16, 2004. Mayer performed for Pennsbury’s Senior Prom after the persistent efforts of student Bob Costa, class of 2004. It has since been dubbed Best Prom in America by Reader’s Digest and is the subject of Wonderland, a book by Michael Bamberger. The bar was set high in 2004. Monday through Thursday every week leading up to Pennsbury High School’s Prom, many juniors and seniors come together and work on colossal murals and three-dimensional objects to decorate the entire school. “It’s a truly inspirational sight, seeing such a big school come together as one unit and create one single amazing and unforgettable night,” Chris Hunter said. Hunter is a great baseball player on the Falcon baseball team, an active member of the Pink Ribbon Club, and a well-known young man at Pennsbury. “I hope saying yes to me will be a piece of cake!” That is how senior Rachael McCleary was asked to PHS Prom by class president Gabe Hirsch.  “Poor Gabe brought me a cake and the wind kept blowing out the candles and my dad pulled in the driveway as Gabe was kneeling down trying to relight the candles and asked, ‘Um, can I help you?’”Mrs. McCleary also came to the door to find out what was going on, but Gabe eventually got to Rachael and she said, “Yes.” Although it didn’t go as planned, the two will always remember this unconventional proposal. Pennsbury High School's legendary Senior Prom 2011, The Bucket List, is only weeks away. On May 14, students will travel in floats, funny cars, golf carts, maybe even a hot air balloon as they participate in the prom parade that leads up to the actual prom. Once they enter the prom, held at PHS East, they'll be transported into a fantastic dream-like atmosphere of amazing sites and thrilling adventures from around the world. Prom season is in the air at Pennsbury High School and parents, students and faculty are working together to make this year's prom better than ever. Unlike most schools that use a catering hall, Pennsbury hosts prom in their East campus building, The gym and its lobby, along with the main and auditorium lobbies, hallways and several lavatories are elaborately decorated for the occasion. The pre-prom parade is a regular red-carpet affair, with students arriving like celebrities on decorated floats and in unusual vehicles, with the community cheering them on.
