Lenape Valley Swim & Dive Team's Collection Drive To Help Local Children In-Need

Lenape Valley Swim & Dive Team Scores Big with Collection Drive To Help Local Children In-Need Served by Cradles to Crayons

It’s mid July, but never too soon to start thinking about the upcoming school year – especially if you’re confronting a tight budget and an average back-to-school bill of $635.00 per child!*

The Lenape Valley Swim & Dive Team, thinking about it too, has launched a collection drive, through Saturday, July 27, to help trim these costs for area families in need.

The Team is supporting Cradles to Crayons’ Ready for School drive (http://www.cradlestocrayons.org/philadelphia/rfs), an annual initiative to collect the essential items needed to ensure that every local child will start the school year off on the right foot.

Area residents are being asked to bring their gently used, outgrown clothes along with footwear, books, and toys – school supplies too – to the Lenape Valley Swim Club (64 Westview Avenue in Chalfont) during normal pool hours, and place them in the specially marked purple Cradles to Crayons collection bins.

“There are an estimated 400,000 children in this region who live in poverty conditions,” said Julie Kline and Christine Reimert, drive co-coordinators, “and the Lenape Valley Swim & Dive Team is stepping up to enlist area families to re-purpose their children’s items that no longer fit, have fallen out of favor, or simply were never used.”

Items collected now through the Saturday, July 27, Lenape Valley Swim Club Splash Party will be given to Cradles to Crayons for distribution to disadvantaged area school children through age 12.

Cradles to Crayons has distributed more than one million essential children’s items to 100,000-plus disadvantaged and underserved children in the Greater Philadelphia region in the past five years, and provides invaluable civic opportunities for 1,300-plus volunteers each month.
