United Way Needs Donations to "Stuff the Bus"

The United Way of Bucks County is collecting donations of new school supplies on Tuesday, August 20 and Wednesday, August 21. Donations can be dropped off at the organizations' offices in Fairless Hills (413 Hood Boulevard) or Doylestown (455 East Street) between the hours of 8 am and 7 pm on both days.

Additionally, members of the community are invited to organize their own "mini-drives" to support Stuff the Bus. A customizable flyer is available at www.uwbucks.com/stuffthebus.   Add the name of your company, organization, or group and arrange a drop off location for your coworkers and friends to leave donations. These donations should then be dropped off at UW Bucks by August 21.

Donations will be distributed to students by UW Bucks' partner agencies and through all Bucks County school districts.  The objective is to make sure that all children have the supplies they need to start the school year right.

Jamie Haddon, United Way of Bucks County CEO, spoke up about the impact of Stuff the Bus.  "Last year, our Stuff the Bus drive increased more than 40%.  We distributed over $17,000 worth of school supplies and we still didn't have enough to meet all of the requests," he says.

Danielle Bush of the United Way's Community Impact team said, "As a parent, I am so proud to be involved in this program.  These are supplies that kids really need.  Without access to them, some students start the year at a real disadvantage."  She explains that having the right supplies can impact the way students learn.  "New supplies can boost a child's self esteem if they are struggling. He or she will feel more ready to start school and more compelled to learn.  This leads to a better education and a better life for that student," she says.
