Area Mummers To Perform At New Year's Day Parade

The Uptown String Band is based in Hulmeville.

Lower Bucks County-based Uptown String Band is set to perform at the annual Philadelphia Mummers Parade on New Years Day.

The band's theme for 2013 is “Cops And Robbers ‘Keystone Kops And Kapers.’”

At Tuesday's parade, the Uptown String Band will be competeing against 16 other groups from around the region.

In the 2012 parade, the group ranked in 11th place. Their theme was "Jest for the Pun of It."

Uptown has been based in Hulmeville Borough since 1990. The group is rooted in North West Philadelphia and first appeared in the city's 1938 mummers parade.

The Mummers Parade has its origins in the mid-1600s and features a blend of European and some African cultural elements.

The parade will be broadcast live starting at 8 a.m. on MyPHL 17.

I would like to say it was amazing watching these future Hall of Famers at 8 years old fightingRead More through the weather and playing the 5 games in 2 days. They were tougher than many of the adults! I remember my days with Levittown American Little League playing in the 8-9 year old division and these boys would have taken us out! It would not have been close. Great Job to all and Congrats to Team Neshaminy...do you know how hard it is to say that as a Pennsbury Grad? I look forward to the next tournament!
