Black Ditch Creek Cleanup Set for Saturday

Despite the Friday snowfall, Dale Frazier and the rest of his organization, the Greenbelt Overhaul Alliance of Levittown (GOAL) still plan to have more than 70 volunteers show up Saturday morning for the clean up of Black Ditch Creek in the Violetwood section of Levittown.

"We are expecting representatives from the state Department of Environmental Protection, the Bucks County Conservation District and local school and scout groups," said Frazier.

The bulk of the job will be removing the dozens of discarded car tires strewn about the creek. The work will begin at 9 a.m. with volunteers meeting across the street at Benjamin Franklin Middle School. Tools, bathroom facilities and lunch will be provided for those interested in helping out.

"We usually get a nice turnout for our events," said Frazier. "Obviously, the more that show up, the more we can get done."

Frazier formed GOAL in 2009 after spending a day picking up litter around the Farmbrook and Stonybrook sections of Levittown, according to the group's website. Since it's formation, the group has participated in cleanup efforts not just in Levittown, but other parts of Bucks County.

"We've held more than 40 events in all four Levittown municipalities," said Frazier. "We've also been up in Warrington, Lower Makefield and the Bristol Marsh area."
