Bristol Township Awards National Soapbox Derby Winner

Mayor John Monahan and town council congratulate the local victor.

Bristol Township Mayor John Monahan and members of town council presented a plaque and congratulated a local kid who won the National Superkids Soapbox Derby in Akron, Ohio.

A crowd of over 60 friends and fans of Bobby Dinucci Jr. packed into the crowded council room on Thursday to cheer and support the young racer.

"I can't even explain how it feels," said father of the racer, Bob Dinucci Sr., about the feeling he and his wife Sharon share over their son's win.

Dinucci Jr. first discovered the race three years ago when a teacher from his high school recommended the event to his family.

The Superkids Soapbox Classic first started in 1981 in Akron, Ohio, as a way to provide children with special needs who could not participate in Akron's regular Classic a chance to participate in the races. In 2003, the National Superkids Classic opened to participants across the country.

Dinucci Jr.'s father said that his son will be returning to the race next year to defend his title.
