Delaware River Ice Jam Prompts Flash Flood Warning in Lower Bucks

A build up of ice on the Delaware River at Trenton could cause some flash flooding along the banks in Lower Bucks.

An ice jam on the Delaware River in Trenton prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning for communities along the river in Lower Bucks and Mercer and Burlington counties in New Jersey.

According to the alert, the build up of ice has resulted in a few miles of near full conditions along the banks of the Delaware River north of the jam.

"When this ice jam breaks," the alert reads, "there may be enough water behind the jam to cause flash flooding downstream."

With temperatures at freezing throughout Wednesday, the alert remains in place until 6 a.m. Thursday. According to the National Weather Service, though it is not possible at this time to determine how high the levels will rise once the ice jam breaks, there is a risk for flash flooding.
