More Road Construction Inbound For Bristol Township

PennDOT to temporarily close part of New Falls Road next week.

New Falls Road will be closed for an entire day sometime next week for inspection and maintenance Bristol Township Council revealed during an open session Thursday night.

According to Council President Rick Pluta, the road closure will occur sometime near the end of next week, most likely Thursday or Friday. In addition to minor roadway maintenance, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation authorities will be inspecting the interstate overpass.

Officials said roadway maintenance will have a staggered scheduling to ensure that at least one lane of the road is open at all times. Half of the project will be done early in the morning with a mid-day lane switch to complete the project by late afternoon.

The planned construction work will head westerly on New Falls Road from Veterans Highway to the Newportville Bridge.

The minor roadwork on New Falls Road is not the only construction occurring in the township. Since last September, the bridge on Bristol-Oxford Valley Road has been under construction effectively partitioning the township. In the beginning of 2011, a massive renovation of Veterans Highway began.

Work being done on three major roadways in under a two-mile radius could add even more congestion to detour routes like Durham Road.

Craig Bowen, proprietor of Bowen Automotive on New Falls Road, said he isn't too concerned.

“I thought when Route 413 closed it would be devastating, but if you look at the roads it turned out OK -- some minor traffic but little trouble, this won't be an issue,” Bowen said.

The roadwork is expected to end late in the afternoon Thursday.
