Truman H.S. Ready To Sprint Into June

Coordinators prepare the 20th annual Tiger Classic.

Coordinators from Truman High School's Tiger Classic held a public audience with the Bristol Township Council Thursday to formally announce the event's 20th community race.

“This is a fantastic event. We get runners and walkers from all ages from infants in strollers to elderly couples,” said event coordinator Dave Droppa.

The run takes place June 3 on Truman grounds. It is broken up into two seperate races; the 1-mile family fun run and the 5k Classic. The later is an intense, professional race, which starts on the school's track and winds through Green Lane and White Wood Drive.

In addition to being a cordinator to the Tiger Classic, Thomas is also a third grade teacher at Maple Shade Elementary in Bristol.

“It's a fun evening for everyone, and with the states budget cuts, it can go a long way to help,” Thomas said.

In the past the event, which is sponsored by the Foundation of Educational Excellence, has helped collected grants and other funds for local public schools. This year, the foundation is providing a $100 incentive to each school who manages to sponsor at least 20 runners.

The fun run also has several local businesses sponsors through the years, including TD Bank, Beaches Hardware and Jones Apparell.

The admission fee to the race is $15 for the 5k Tiger Classic, $10 for the Family Fun Run with a T-shirt bonus, or just $5 for the Fun Run without the T-shirt.

Those interested in the event can sign up at the gates before 5:30 p.m. on June 3 or pre-register on the Bristol Township School District's website.
