Tyler Park to Close Wednesday for Shotgun Deer Hunt

Tyler State Park will be closed Wednesday for the annual shotgun deer hunt.

The hunt is being held “due to the natural resource impacts and increased numbers of white-tailed deer in Tyler State Park and in an effort to reduce problems created by this condition.”

The hunt will be limited to 150 hunters who have special state park permits, and only shotguns using a "00" buckshot will be permitted.

“To ensure the safety of all park visitors, Tyler State Park will be closed on this date to all activities,” the park announced on its website.

Later in December and through the end of January, a regulated late-season archery hunt will be scheduled in the park north of Dairy Hill Trail to include the Covered Bridge area for a total of 500 acres.

Tyler State Park is made up of 1,700 acres in Newtown and Northampton townships.
