Bakery Brings Sweet Treats to Maple Avenue

Sara's Homemade Sweets offers a impressive offering of delicious baked products.

When you walk in the idyllic looking bakery at 102 East Maple Avenue in Langhorne Borough, your eyes are treated to an impressive display of delicious looking treats.

The bakery - Sara’s Homemade Sweets - opened in early August and has enjoyed robust business, owner Sara Weight said.

Weight, a baker for the majority of the adult life, said when she decided to open a shop early in the year, “things just fell into place at the right time.”

“I was at a point where I had to stop [baking at home] or move forward.”

Luckily for Langhorne, she decided to move forward and open the shop.

The summer transformation of the storefront into a bakery went well with little to no complications, she said.

Weight stressed that the shop is not your traditional bakery and does not offer dozens donuts or a cornucopia of fresh baked breads. Instead, the shop focuses on the beautiful crafted cakes, customer favorite cake pops, a large variety of cupcakes and pristine looking chocolate covered pretzels. However, limited specialty breads are often available.

the shop is alive with staff working on the latest special order cakes for area customers from the early morning hours until late at night, Weight said.

Recently, the shop crafted cakes shaped as a soccer ball, baseball diamond, vinyl record and even a sleeping newborn. A recent order was received for a cake that looks like bacon and eggs.

The shop owner prides herself on using high quality ingredients and making everything from scratch. “No preservatives means better flavor,” she said.

Weight began with her love affair with baking as a child growing up in Newtown.

She says her mother would spend much of the month leading up to Christmas baking all kinds of treats for friends, family and neighbors. Fudge and cupcakes were the favorite in the household of 13 children.

As the remaining leaves fell from the trees outside, Weight looked out the store's large display windows and said she was pleased to be operating a business in the borough. A place which she commented looks like it’s out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

“It just feels like home.”
