A family-owned eatery specializing in "authentic Italian" food is expected to open in Bensalem Township by spring.

On Monday night, the Bensalem Township Council granted preliminary and final land development approval to the owner of Sarappo's Pizza in Croydon, for what will be the family business' second location. Councilman Joseph Knowles, saying that the applicant was a "past client," recused himself from the discussion and subsequent 4-0 vote.

Joseph Sarappo III said he and his son, Joseph Sarappo IV, expect to open their new 3,232-square-foot, one-story restaurant at 4028 Bristol Pike by spring.

The BYOB restaurant will offer "authentic Italian" and "everything made from scratch," the elder Sarappo told Patch after the council meeting.

He said a company in Georgia is constructing the building. It will be moved up in sections, Sarappo III said.

The family's attorney, Christopher Steward, told the governing body that the business would be situated on a roughly three-quarter of an acre vacant lot at the northwest corner of Totem Road and Bristol Pike.

Bensalem's zoning hearing board set a maximum 60-seat capacity as a condition previously, Steward said.
