Speak Out: Will You Boycott Denny's, Applebees and Papa John's?

The franchise owners of these popular chains are making big changes to offset costs of Obamacare, but it's causing some customers to rethink which businesses they'll support.

Several franchise owners of popular restaurant chains say that the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare will increase costs for small business owners—and in order to offset costs they are adding surcharges to bills, threatening layoffs and more.

According to the Huffington Post, John Metz, a Florida-based Denny's franchise owner, is adding a 5 percent surcharge to customers' bills to offset costs for healthcare.

Apple-Metro CEO Zane Tankel, who owns more than 40 Applebee's chains in the metro New York area, slammed Obamacare on Fox Business Network, Huffington Post reported, stating he would not hire any more employees and may cut the hours of current employees.

But a Twitter campaign has already begun against Papa John's after CEO John Schnatter’s said the chain would increase prices to offset costs related to the  Affordable Care Act. Protestors are asking Americans to support local pizza chains over Papa John's.

So what do you think? Will you boycott these businesses for their actions against employees and customers? Or you think that small business owners are suffering due to Obamacare? Tell us in the comments.

So people really thought that these companies would just eat the increased cost? ALL cost is passed on to the consumer.

So let me get this straight, these companies r letting people go for something that's going to happen in 2014?

Some small businesses are really having a hard time of it because the economy still isn't good. Having Obamacare shoved down thier throats only makes it worse. Where else are they going to come up with the money to cover the cost? Denny's, Applebee's or Papa John's aren't what I view as small businesses.

Let me describe the problem. its 30-40 years ago. you are running a small business. a suit wearing thug walks into your store with a baseball bat. while patting it in his other hand he says he has an offer you can't turn down. Protection Insurance. you pay him a premium for protecting insurance and he will keep your place from being smashed up maybe YOU from being smashed up. this is called a "racket" its a crime in this country. your asking someone to pay for something for which you will create the cause of if they don't pay you. a protection racket. NOW what do you think the correct solution is? I can tell you what the correct solution is. you put the dirtballs in a prison cell where they belong. NOW health care costs a fortune. not because its expensive but because there is a protection racket in play right now in the pharma insurance industry. they are artificially jacking up the cost of health care SO THAT their "protection insurance" is more affordable than just paying the doctor yourself. and now let me get this straight. Obama solution is NOT to put these dirtbags in a prison cell where they belong. his solution is to put a GUN to my head and "FORCE" me to pay the dirtballs running the protection racket. ?? am I seriously the only one who had a massive brain fart when I read this and went WAIT you want to WHAT ??

yet this is precisely what obama care does. it FORCES me to pay into this protection racket instead of actually putting the dirtbags in prison who crated the very illegal and immoral protection racket that is government enforced. The problem is the citizens of this once great nations are lazy greedy selfish lemmings. FIXING the problem would actually entail WORK. god forbid if you had to exert some effort. so they opt for the lazy WAHHH let the government fix it. lets be clear on something. business pay no taxes. ever. period. the very purpose of any business is to make a profit. a profit is when your revenue exceeds your costs. taxes are a cost. so 100% of taxes are passed onto the consumer. PERIOD or the business FAILS (ie goes OUT of business) if our family business had to comply with obama care we would have no choice but to close our doors. the market can not support higher prices and we don't have enough PROFIT to absorb the cost and we can't higher FEWER employee's (3) we would lose our business and in the end likely lose our home. its that simple. you can bleed anymore blood from these stones. I am already paying 62% of my ZERO INCOME wages to direct taxation. how much more can I bleed? (24.5% after refund to FIT 28.9% to property school taxes 3% to the state 2% local misc 4% sales tax) and my income is 0. I earn a wage.

Yup, what Chris said! The tax payer's pockets are empty. How far does it have to go before the hard working, tax paying people, get sick of this nonsense and start getting these clowns out of office? (No offense to real clowns)
Millie November 18, 2012 at 10:01 PM
@ Bev K ~ (No offense to real clowns) I agree ~ at least the "real" clowns are doing their job!

Why aren't these companies already offering healthcare for their employees? Why should the government HAVE to mandate them to do it. These companies don't pay enough for these employees to barely live out of the poverty level. Try and live off of $10/hr. One of the biggest issues with healthcare is too few have it. You can't wait until your so sick that your only option is the ER, which costs the most. Healthcare should be available to everyone, and be affordable for all. This is a supposed capitAlist country, shouldn't these capitalists make sure that this healthcare is both available and affordable, the other option is Government healthcare for all, God forbid, make up your mind. Not providing healthcare will leave 2 options; the Government paying unpaid overpriced emergency care, or deny care and let them die. Which of the 3 options do you really think is best?
