Recap: Defense spending now endangers our democratic way of life

Last year, I wrote a guest opinion(http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/local/courier_times_news/opinion/guest/defense-spending-now-endanger...) in the Bucks County Courier Times about the danger defense spending posed to the health of the national economy. Now it seems that the health of Buck's economy in particular is in jeopardy with the closing of the Lockheed Martin Newtown branch by 2015(http://articles.philly.com/2013-11-16/news/44117286_1_newtown-defense-contractor-denver).

According to the Bucks County Economic Development Corporation, Lockheed Martin is the 19th largest employer in Bucks County(http://www.bcedc.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=23&Itemid=151). As of 2012, the company's revenue was $47.2 billion. That's an increase from $46.5 billion in 2011. Keep in mind that in just one year, Lockheed Martin brought in more revenue then the nation of India spends on its entire military.

Yet even with massive investments by our government in the defense industry, Iraq and Afghanistan remain hopelessly unstable and violent. Not to mention the violence and lawlessness that persists here at home(http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/10/31/us-usa-poll-crime-idUSBRE99U11Z20131031). This begs the question, has the common defense been provided for?
