500+ People Attend St. Mary Medical Center Event

More than 500 people attended a stroke prevention event hosted by St. Mary Medical Center. 

Internationally-known director, producer, actor and best-selling author Henry Winkler was the keynote inspirational speaker at the

Guests received information about prevention, risk factors and warning signs of stroke. In addition, 150 people received free stroke screenings, which included blood pressure checks and discussions to identify personal risk factors and lifestyle changes that could help prevent a stroke.

The program featured celebrity emcee Shirleen Allicot, the co-anchor of Action News at 4 p.m.; who moderated a panel discussion with Dr. Stavropoula Tjoumakaris, an endovascular neurosurgeon with Jefferson Neurosurgical Associates at St. Mary Medical Center; Robin D’Ambrosio, Stroke Program Coordinator at St. Mary Medical Center; and four St. Mary stroke patients who shared their compelling and inspiring stories. 

The program also included musical performances by Rejoice and Chosen Elect, regional gospel-music choirs. Additional special guests and speakers included Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick, and Christina Crews, Communications Director of the local American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (ASA).
