In addition to raising funds for the Brain Injury Association's prevention programs and Camp Cranium's summer program for children with brain injuries, organizers of the event hope to raise public awareness about brain injury.

According to a press release from St. Mary Medical Center, brain injury has been called the "silent epidemic." News reports about sports-related concussions and wounded veterans have increased public awareness about brain injury, but data from the Centers for Disease Control show an estimated 1.7 million people sustain a brain injury each year in the United States.
