Online Campaign Raises Money for Levittown Woman's Memorial Fund

Judith Addesa passed away in September after a four-year battle against lung cancer, leaving behind a loving family and costly medical expenses.

The granddaughter of a longtime Levittown resident who passed away in September has created a GoFundMe.com page to help raise money to pay for medical bills amassed from four years of cancer treatment.

According to the campaign site, Judith Addesa was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, despite never smoking a day in her life. Addesa was in and out of the hospital for chemotherapy treatments for the next four and-a-half years, up until her death on September 13.

"(She) was a caring, loving woman," writes Dawn Adessa, her granddaughter who created the page. "She always put her family first and ensured the needs of others before tending to her own. She was the most giving, understanding, accepting woman anyone could ever know."

As of Dec. 5, the campaign has raised $2,000 of its $4,000 goal, money that will be donated to Judith's husband, Vito, to give him some relief for the medical expenses that insurance did not cover.

"My grandmother was my world and I am devastated by all of this," writes Dawn. "So please, any donation would be greatly appreciated and on behalf of my family we thank you in advance for your compassion and generosity."
