Bristol Township Lights Up Holiday Tree

Dozens of families braved the frigid air to enjoy the township's annual tree lighting ceremony.

It might have took a few extra days, but the official start of the holiday season has finally arrived at Bristol Township with the lighting of the Holiday Tree.

Some snowy weather on Sunday forced Bristol Township officials to move the tree lighting festivities to Wednesday, but the schedule change did not keep the holiday-loving residents from attending the annual ritual.

Newtown's Courtney Calle kicked off the party with blistering performance of Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime." Township Council President Bob Lewis led the crowd in a countdown before turning on the holiday tree and surrounding decorations.

The beacon invited Santa Claus to come down from the fire truck escorted by the Third District Volunteer Fire Company. After shaking some hands, Ol' St. Nick invited the gathered crowd to the warmer confines of the township building.

After Santa met with the children, students from Harry Truman High School created fun balloon animals for the young ones to take home.
