It Aint Christmas , it's Eagles Cowboys Week

My Top 5 Eagles/ Cowboys Games

With Christmas finally out of the way now, just kidden! Let’s start over.

With Christmas Day behind us, the football frenzy commonly known as Eagles/Cowboys week officially commences. How much better can this get to end a regular season? Two rivals square off with the division title to the victors. Priceless.

Much can be said about the mediocrity of the NFC East, and there isn’t much to defend that this year. That said, the Eagles have more, if not the only,

upside in that division. Coach Kelly and staff have pumped blood into a flat lined football town.  And who really cares about that right now, we need to get ready for Sunday night people!

Here is my list of my top 5 games between these hated rivals, feel free to add to the list with your favorites in the comments section below.

5.  1999 – Michael Irvin suffers injury at the Vet.    ( I was not happy a player was injured, in fact it was career ending injury, it is just a memory engraved in my head.  Much like Eric Lindros crippled after the Scott Stevens hit.)

4.  1989 – Bounty Bowls ( I & II )  Thanksgiving Day, Jimmie Johnson cries on the post game report, calls Buddy Ryan fat and accuses him of a bounty set against his kicker, who the Eagles had cut.  Buddy replies that he resented that because he had thought he lost a few pounds and was looking good.  A few weeks later in Philadelphia the second Bowl got ugly at the Vet that included future mayor Ed Rendell betting another fan $20 he couldn’t reach the field with a snowball. We all know what ensued.

3. 1987 -  The Cowboys had many of their players cross the players picket lines during the strike that year and they humiliated the Eagles replacement players. Buddy Ryan waited for his revenge and when the teams met again that year after the strike was settled, the Birds had the lead with only a little bit of time remaining.  Randall Cunningham, faked a kneel down and heaved a bomb downfield drawing an interference penalty and an ensuing Eagles TD from the 1 yard line.

2. 2008 – Week 17, a wildcard berth on the line due to a wild day in the NFL.  Because Tampa Bay and Chicago both lost, this kept the Eagles playoff chances alive and set up the winner take all game. The Eagles wasted no time and blew out the boys and Romo in a 44-6 rout

1. 1980 – NFC Championship at the Vet.   I was a youngster that was passed on the tradition of the rivalry from my dad, and was seated right in front of our console TV.  I remember the hype that the Eagles were making the Cowboys wear their blue jersey’s, something they only wore at home along with a vivid memory of Wilbert Montgomery busting thru the line for a 42 yard touchdown!
