Accidents Reported, Bridge Closes During Winter Weather System

Several accidents were reported around Lower Bucks County during Monday night's small snow system.

A fast-moving winter weather system may be to blame fore several accidents on numerous local roads Monday evening.

Snow started to fall around the region shortly after dark in Bucks County and ended up dropping an inch in Feasterville, according to the National Weather Service’s Mount Holly, N.J. office.

With the snow came several vehicle crashes.

Just after 8 p.m., crews responded to South Flowers Mill Road and East Lincoln Highway in Middletown where a van was reported to have flipped on its side. Three people needed the assistance of fire crews from Penndel to get free, according to an alert from the Breaking News Network and emergency scanner traffic.

An accident involving as many as 8 vehicles took place just a short time later in the 1600 block of Brownsville Road in the Langhorne section of Middletown. Breaking News Network reported that ambulance crews had trouble getting to the scene due to icy conditions. The extent of injuries is unclear at this time.

Firefighters from Trevose Fire Company worked to free a victim trapped in a nasty one car wreck on Street Road in the Trevose section of Lower Southampton minutes before 11 p.m. The victim was transported to the hospital to be treated, police said. Traffic on westbound Street Road was blocked between Philmont Avenue and Old Street Road as crews investigated the crash that left the VW against a tree.

Crews from Bucks and Montgomery counties responded to County Line and Bux Mont roads on the Lower Moreland and Lower Southampton border at around 9:30 p.m. for an accident with reported injuries. According to the Montgomery County dispatch website, vehicles involved in the crash ended up on both sides on the roadway.

The Trenton-Morrisville Route 1 Toll Bridge was closed for a period of time during the late evening due to a car crash, PennDOT said. The bridge was also reported to be icy.

Traffic accidents and road closures caused by the dangerous conditions were reported throughout the entire Philadelphia area.

An afternoon alert from the National Weather Service warned drivers that the band of snows may cause a “period of slippery travel.”

PennDOT and municipal crews in several communities were seen out salting area roadways.

The National Weather Service is calling for sun and gust winds on Tuesday. The daytime high temperature is expected to be 24 degrees. A chance of snow is also forecasted for later in the week.
