Holiday Inn Robbed at Gunpoint, Police Say

Police say a man robbed a Holiday Inn at gunpoint and then fled in a taxi.

Bensalem officers chased down a taxicab carrying a man that police say robbed the Bensalem Holiday Inn Express at gunpoint Tuesday evening.

Wayne Scott, 43, of Philadelphia, has been arrested on felony counts of robbery, possession of a firearm and related charges and has been confined to Bucks County prison, unable to post bail.

According to police, the front desk clerk at the Holiday Inn located on Street Road said a black man with shoulder-length dreadlocks, a red and blue baseball cap and a light blue shirt approached the counter, pointed a silver handgun at her and said, "Give me the money...it's fully loaded...this is not a joke...is it worth your life?"

The clerk opened the register and gave the gunman $200 in $1 and $5 denominations, according to the affidavit. Police say the robber left the building and hopped in to the back seat of a waiting taxi and drove away on westbound Street Road.

An officer traveling north on Roosevelt Boulevard saw a taxi matching the description given by dispatch and began to follow the vehicle, according to court documents. Police say the officer saw a black man with a blue t-shirt and dreadlocks slouched down in the rear of the car.

According to the report, the officer, assisted by Philadelphia police, pulled the taxi over and ordered the passenger out of the car. Police say that as he was getting out, a silver handgun fell out of his lap and landed on the ground underneath the taxi. The man, Scott, was later identified by the clerk as the same person who robbed the hotel, according to police. Officer say they found money in his pocket in $1 and $5 denominations.

Police say that there were also scratch marks across the serial number of the silver .380 semi-automatic handgun, which was loaded with five rounds. Officers say a review of Scott's criminal history showed a conviction for an armed robbery and other offenses involving the same gun.
