Langhorne Appoints New Chief Of Police

Bristol Township Police Sgt. Steven Mawhinney takes over as the new chief of police.

After a six-month search and nearly 30 applicants, Langhorne Borough has a new chief of police. It's been three years since the department has had a full-time chief.

Sgt. Sean DiMeo has supervised the nine-man department since the buyout of former Chief Ken Barnes' contract. Barnes is now a chief of police in upstate Pennsylvania.

Chief  Steven Mawhinney brings 31 years of experience to Langhorne. He spent 25 years in Bristol Township -- the last 15 years as a patrol sergeant. Prior to Bristol Township, Mawhinney worked in Langhorne Manor, Bristol and Tulleytown Boroughs.

Besides his years of experience, Mawhinney brings recognition as the county's lead investigator for fatal and serious traffic accidents. 

Mawhinney is a Lower Southampton resident, is married and has five children.

With pay at $42,000 per year, Mawhinney's contract runs through 2013.
