Levittown Woman Rescued From Cliff At Tyler State Park

Authorities said a 23-year-old Levittown resident was rescued after falling 75 feet down a cliff.

A young Bucks County woman fell from a cliff at Tyler State Park Monday afternoon and had to be pulled 75 feet up a cliff to be rescued.

The woman, a 23-year-old Levittown resident, was climbing up a cliff near the Neshaminy Creek dam when she fell and suffered injuries, according to Northampton Fire Chief Adam Selisker.

The woman was about a quarter of the way up the cliff when she fell. It is believed she suffered a broken leg, according to park manager Michael Crowley. Multiple witnesses reported that the woman laid on the ground with a portion of bone protruding from the injured leg.

After being dispatched at 3:47 p.m., firefighters used ropes to repel down the cliff and began attempts to get the woman up from the bottom, which is near the bank of the creek, authorities confirmed.

In about 30 minutes, rescue crews had the woman packaged for extraction and multiple firefighters were hoisting the woman nearly 75 feet up the cliff in a rescue basket. Once at the top of the cliff, she was transported to a waiting ambulance and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Middletown for treatment.

Selisker said the spot where the woman fell was near the cliffs where Northampton and Newtown firefighters often train for high-angle rescues.

The Newtown Fire Assoication and Northampton Fire Department were assisted by State Park Rangers and the Newtown Ambulance Squad.
