Missing Cat Found Dead After Apartment Fire

The family believes the cat died from smoke inhalation, according to a representative from Red Paw Emergency Relief.

The Red Paw Emergency Relief team reports that the search has been called off for KoVu, a cat that had gone missing during the Racquet Club Apartment fire last week.

A member of the family contact Red Paw and said the body of the cat had been found in the closet of the apartment.

"They believe he died of smoke inhalation, so hopefully he did not suffer and the family can now have some closure," a Red Paw representative posted on the organization's Facebook page. "Our thoughts are with them while they continue to recover from the fire and grieve the loss of KoVu."

The family managed to get KoVu's brother, BaLu, out of the apartment during the four-alarm fire last Friday that displaced more than 100 people. Red Paw set up traps Sunday and Monday to help capture the missing cat, described as skittish and very good at hiding.
