Officer Hurt After Struggling With Drunken Woman, Police Say

A Bristol woman fought with officers when they tried to arrest her last week in Bristol Borough.

Bristol Borough officers responding to reports of an intoxicated individual who fell last Wednesday morning were in for quite a surprise.

An arriving patrol officer was greeted by a Bristol woman screaming obscenities and threats outside the Food Pantry on Wood Street, court documents said. Police asked her to stop and she did not, according to court documents.

As the officer went inside the food store to check on the fall victim, the 23-year-old followed and was asked by police to leave. A person in charge of the store also requested that she leave, according to an affidavit.

Despite the warnings, the woman defied orders and kept coming, police said.

According to the affidavit, officers eventually removed the woman and told her if she entered the store again it would be considered illegal trespass.

"During contact with police, it was obvious that the woman was under the influence of a controlled substance,” police said. They added that she had trouble maintaining balance, impaired speech and glassy eyes.

Officers eventually arrested the 23-year-old and she struggled as wrist restraints were placed. In the end, it took two officers to restrain the woman, police said.

One officer suffered a laceration to his hand and was treated by EMS.

The woman was charged with resisting arrest, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. She was arraigned and release of $20,000 unsecured bail, according to district court dockets.
