Officials: Blaze At Former Pathmark Store In Bristol May Be Arson

Exact Cause Fire Under Investigation

Fire at a vacant commercial building is being investigated as a possible arson, according to officials.

Firefighters from Bristol and Middletown responded to numerous calls of a building fire at the vacant Pathmark store in Bristol Township.

It happened at the corner of Durham Road and Route 413 shortly before 6 p.m. Monday.

Two rear loading dock doors were found on fire by responding crews, but firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze before it spread to the rest of the building.

The possible cause of the fire appeared to be foam, but the Bristol Township fire marshal said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Pathmark store was the anchor in the shopping center for many years before it was forced to close just before Christmas to make room for the Pennsylvania Turnpike expansion project -- that project is expected to start in the near future.

Though damage appeared to be minimal, the fire marshal said official estimates from a building representative had yet to be determined.
