Police Investigating 'Suspicious Occurrences' Involving Teens & Older Men

Both incidents were reported over the past few days in Middletown Township. One incident involved a man telling a 15-year-old waiting for the bus that he was attractive, police said.

Authorities in Middletown Township are investigating two suspicious incidents involving vehicles approaching juveniles that have occurred in the Highland Park section over the past few days.

Three teens - 2 females and one male - between the ages of 12 and 13 were skateboarding on Hillside Road Monday evening at 4:30 p.m. when a silver minivan pulled up and the drive began talking at the juveniles. Moments later, the man began videotaping the teens and then left the area, police said.

The teens told officers could not clearly hear what the man was saying to them when he pulled up.

Police checked the neighborhood for the suspect and his vehicle just after 5 p.m. The search yielded no results.

The second incident police are investigating happened Wednesday morning at Harmony and Hedge roads.

A teenager waiting at his bus stop reported that a while male in his 20s pulled up in an older red Jeep Cherokee with a white fender and began talking to him and asking “inappropriate questions.”

The 15-year-old, who had ear buds in, did not hear much of what the subject was saying. However, he did hear the man mention a specific street. The teen also heard the man ask if he was gay. The teen replied no and asked why. To which the subject in the Jeep said, “Because you’re attractive.”

The SUV then drove away on Harmony Road. Police said the vehicle was headed toward Woodbourne Road.

The teen’s school alerted 911 of the incident at 9:18 a.m. A search of the area did not locate the Jeep or its drive. Other area police departments were alerted of the incident and also aided in the search, police said in a statement.

Middletown police are recommending parents tell children “that if someone in a vehicle stops and talks to them when no adults are around, they should not approach the vehicle.”

Authorities are asking anyone with information on the incidents contact Middletown detectives at 215-750-3845. If similar incidents occur, police say call 911.
