Police to Charge Levittown Driver with Homicide

Police identify John Leck Jr., 48, of Levittown as the alleged drunk driver who struck and killed Highway Patrol Officer Brian Lorenzo.

Police on Sunday identified the alleged drunk driver who struck and killed a Highway Patrol Officer as John Leck Jr., 48, of Levittown.

Police said Leck will be charged with homicide and DUI-related offenses. Leck was in custody Sunday at Aria-Torresdale Hospital, according to Metro Philly.

Leck was driving a gray Audi, reports indicate, in the wrong direction on I-95 at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, when he allegedly struck Philadelphia Highway Patrol Officer Brian Lorenzo, 48, who was on his way home, riding his police motorcycle.

Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross said in a press conference, “It just appears that Officer Lorenzo had absolutely no chance to evade this male. And it’s just a sad, sad day for us.”

Lorenzo is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda, and their three children.

In a prepared statement, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said:

“...I ask all Philadelphians to reflect on Brian’s service, to remember him in their prayers and to share their thoughts and condolences with his wife and family and the thousands of Philadelphia police officers who ensure our safety each and every day and who have suffered a terrible loss.

I have ordered that all City flags be lowered to half-staff for the next 30 days in honor of our friend and great public servant, Brian Lorenzo.”

Lorenzo was a decorated officer and served Philadelphia for 23 years.
