Possible Arson at Oxford Valley Mall Under Investigation

The fire occurred in a stock room at the mall Monday morning.

Officials from the Middletown Police Department and Fire Marshal's office are currently investigating the cause of a stockroom fire at the Oxford Valley Mall Monday morning. According to reports, the blaze is being investigated as a possible arson.

Middletown Fire Marshal James McGuire could not confirm if the fire had a suspicious nature, commenting that the incident is under investigation.

According to McGuire, the alarm went out at 10:48 a.m. when the fire broke out in a back stockroom on the upper level of the mall, nearby the Sears section of the complex. The mall's sprinkler system quickly extinguished the flames, and there was minimal smoke damage to the area.

Customers were briefly evacuated from the building and allowed back in once the smoke was under control at approximately 11:30 a.m.
