Thieves Steal Equipment From Girls Softball League

The Bristol Township Girls Softball League had equipment stolen Friday, and they need help to replace it.

On Friday, Aug. 17, thieves hit two separate buildings – the clubhouse at Oxford Valley Fields and Johnson Elementary School – and took memorabilia and equipment used by the Bristol Township Girls Softball League.

“A pitching machine, aluminum signs … they took all of the aluminum signs; all of the state championship signs are gone,” said Linda Black, vice president of the league. “It’s not only stuff that was stolen, but [they took our] history as well.”

Thieves also took leaf blowers, weed whackers and extension cords, but the biggest item was the pitching machine, which could cost around $3,000 to buy a used one, Black said.

In all, she estimates it would cost $6,964 to replace what was taken from the league, and the fall season is about to start.

“We have 150 girls, and don’t have any grants or funds available. We really want to have a place for these girls to play softball.”

Without help, Black said, it’s doubtful the league can have a fall season and may have to wait until spring.

“We want to do this for the girls, [but] at this point it is difficult to just keep up with paying the PECO bills,” she said. “We are trying to have a fall season, but pretty much don’t have any equipment right now. We are trying to raise funds, and did raise $204 at the (Bristol) , but that is only a smidgen,”
