$155 Million Approved for I-95/Turnpike Connection Project

The breakout project allows the transferring of funds that will go towards the widening and reconstruction of the mainline Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bristol Township.

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission recently approved a $155 million breakout project that will allow construction work to begin this June that will ultimately provide a direct connection between I-95 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to a release from TMA Bucks.

The breakout project allows the transferring of funds that will go towards the widening and reconstruction of the mainline Pennsylvania Turnpike in Bristol Township from a point approximately 100-feet west of the I-95 overpass to a point 500-feet west of the Delaware River Bridge Toll Plaza.

“This is a critical step in advancing a project that we have supported for a long time,” said Bill Brady, Executive Director of TMA Bucks. “Breakout projects like this keep the overall plan alive and moving forward. Each step along the way gets us closer to the goal of a completed connection between I-95 and the PA Turnpike.”

Stage 1 work overall includes building high-speed connections to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 95 in Bucks County, a new mainline toll plaza, and mainline widening. The completion of Project Stage 1, along with the re-designation of the PA and NJ Turnpikes will make I-95 continuous throughout the east coast from Florida to Maine.

The project also includes roadway improvements along PA 413 which includes traffic signals, pavement reconstruction, concrete curb, design-build pedestrian ramps, guiderail, drainage facilities and utility relocation.

How does this project figure into Middletown's Budget for 2014 and beyond? Is there Federal Highway money coming our way, or is it tied up in some sort of bond? Has there been any open public discussion about this, and its impact on our local infrastructure? This should be front page news! The last thing we need in our area is a costly, long term, messy road construction project that is being rammed through in order to enrich the greedy Folks who now have the tolling rights and revenues to the PA TPK to get richer and force the poor citizens to pay more for a commute. All this and an EIT, Makes Middletown a less desirable place to live!
