PennDOT Begins Construction On Route 413

Project expected to continue through July 2012.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that construction is scheduled to begin Monday, May 9 on a $7.5 million project to reconstruct and improve 2.8 miles of Route 413 between Old Lincoln Highway and Bath Road in Middletown and Bristol townships, Bucks County.

According to a release, from May 9 through September, northbound Route 413 will be closed and detoured between New Falls Road and Trenton Road. A posted detour will take northbound Route 413 traffic over New Falls Road, Durham Road and Trenton Road. Access to homes or businesses along this stretch of Route 413 will be provided from southbound 413.

"Following input from local elected officials, business owners and residents, we revised our traffic plans to include daytime work and short-term detours to minimize overnight construction and to accelerate the project,” PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said. “We will begin construction in the residential section of Route 413 in Middletown Township before moving into the business area of Bristol Township late this summer.”

Under the project, crews will reconstruct Route 413 by patching the deteriorated concrete pavement; resurfacing the roadway; reconstructing shoulders; widening intersections; upgrading traffic signals; installing fiber optic communication cable to  tie into the signalized intersections along the corridor; and rehabilitating the bridge over Mill Creek.

The improvement of the bridge at Mill Creek includes replacing the existing deteriorated parapets and install new guiderail on the approaches to the bridge.

James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc., of Philadelphia is the general on the $7,567,978 contract that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.  The contract has an expiration date of July 2012.
