Power Still Out, Clean Up Continues; Troops Return [Updated]

As power is slowly restored to Levittown, Bristol Township Emergency Operations Director Kevin Dippolito said the National Guard will return with 10 troops to help authorities overnight.

Bristol Township officials said a curfew - running from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.- will continue until power is returned. The curfew will affect mainly "pedestrian traffic," the police department posted online.

No major looting took place anywhere in Bristol, officials said.

Police Chief James McAndrew told Philly.com on Tuesday that his department responded to several burglaries and attempted burglaries during the storm.

Dippolito told Patch 10 workers from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) would be in Bristol for the next few days to help remove fallen trees. The DCNR crews were seen in the hard-hit Oaktree section.

Power crews were working on utility lines in the Crabtree section just after lunch.

A police officer in the township said several accidents have been reported due to traffic signal outages throughout the area. Several major intersection lights in Bristol Township, Falls and Tullytown wll be operated by generators until power is back.

An emergency shelter is being operated for residents at the James A. Gallagher Senior Center located on the grounds of the Bristol Township Municipal Complex at 2501 Bath Road.

The YMCA in Falls and Newtown are offering shower facilites.

Public works crews and private contractors were out Tuesday morning clearing debris from yards and roads.

Bristol Borough crews used dump trucks to clear branches from the small streets of the community.

Road crews in Bristol Township help residents cut large trees and also remove debris from residential streets.

Falls Township employees were out clearing street and making sure traffic signals powered by generators were in working order.

In Middletown, a public works unit was seen working to move large branches.

Along Main Street, Tullytown public works crews helped an older man move fallen limbs from outside his house.

Levittown and New Jersey residents without power filled area hotels. A young front desk employee at a Middletown hotel told Patch the hotel is booked full and nearly every hotel in the region is booked solid.

“The Bristol Township Emergency Operations Center’s phone number is (267) 812-2930 and will continue to be manned 24 hours a day until the emergency has passed,” Bill McCauley, Bristol’s township manager, said.
