Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden Campaigns for Obama and Women

Several high-ranking politicos, including Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Mitt Romney and Bill Clinton are spending the last few days before the election in Montgomery County in a last big push to mobilize voters.

With only a few days left until the election, candidates and their proxies are making the rounds in some of the battleground states this weekend, including Pennsylvania.

Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, made a few campaign stops in Montgomery County this weekend – in Media on Friday and then in Norristown, West Chester, Germantown and the Northeast on Saturday. On her Saturday stops, she was accompanied by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.

In Norristown on Saturday, the pair spoke to a full house at the Obama For America campaign headquarters at 1729 Markley Street. Dr. Biden thanked the crowd for their continued support and noted that Montgomery County, where she said grew up, would be key to an Obama-Biden victory in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Biden touted Obama and her husband's commitment to education (Dr. Biden herself is a professor at a Norther Virginia Community College), their record of ending the war in Iraq and killing Osama bin Laden, their commitment to ending the war in Afghanistan in 2014 and for continued support for military families and veterans, and for the commitment to women's rights.

"I'm involved in this election as a woman who cares about the direction of our country," said Dr. Biden. "I've seen Barack and Joe stand up for our freedoms every single day and I'm sure the women in here know that the first bill that the president signed was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

Dr. Biden also noted that the health care reform enacted by the Obama administration was a boon for women.

"They fought so hard for healthcare reform because now insurance companies cannot charge women more than men," she said. "They can't charge a copay for us for basic preventative care like contraception, mammograms and prenatal screenings."

While Dr. Biden's remarks were well-received in this crowd, it was Mayor Nutter who brought the crowd to a deafening roar and chants of "Four more years" with his support of the president and his admonition of Mitt Romney.

"We're on a mission to greatness," said Nutter. "We're on a mission to continuing the positive direction that our president has laid out."

Nutter also credited Obama for the recent support he's shown to the victim's of Hurricane Sandy in our region and along the Northeast.

"I've been on two conference calls with the president this week," he noted. "He's talking to the power companies to make sure the power gets restored, that the water gets pumped out, that people get the services they need. This is not the Katrina FEMA, this is the Obama FEMA that delivers services to people and makes sure things get done."

"Here in Norristown, in Philadelphia, we kind of survived Hurricane Sandy," he continued. "We could never survive Hurricane Romney. He has no idea what he's doing to lead this country forward. We need the president reelected because he's moving this country forward. We're not going back."

See our video for more highlights from the campaign stop in Norristown.

Romney will be holding a campaign rally this evening in Bucks County. The rally at Shady Brook Farm (931 Stony Hill Road, Yardley) begins at 5:30 p.m.

Former President Bill Clinton will also be visiting our area this week. Clinton is scheduled to rally Obama-Biden supporters and volunteers at events in Philadelphia, Blue Bell, Pittsburgh and Scranton on Monday, the day before the election.

"Dr. Biden touted Obama and her husband's commitment to education" LOL are you kidding? Obama won't release his records and Biden is a blatant plagiarist, what more has to be said....

A strong intelligent woman appreciates the democratic stance fully supporting equal pay for women, women's right to control their own bodies, family healthcare, and education. As for records, talk about records, the last person to release so few records as Romney was Nixon....every other candidate has for decades, yet he remains secretive...secretive like what his plan really includes...what cuts... which deductions...which programs...is it still FEMA?...is it still reducing education funding? I have seen Gerard's personal attacks elsewhere so I am choosing not to receive your replies. CIvil people are welcome.
