Soldier Not Able to Vote in Falls

A veteran of the Iraq war was not able to vote Tuesday in Falls Township.

After waiting in line at Village Park Elementary School in Falls, Army Sgt. Christopher McAnally was not able to vote due to a mix-up.

The sergeant told Patch he last voted via absentee ballot in the 2008 election with no problems. Tuesday night, he was told by officials in Doylestown he was not registered in Bucks County.

McAnally moved recently from Bensalem to Falls and did not know he had to register at his new polling spot.

The judge of election at Village Park put McAnally in contact with the county election office. The office could not find the veteran on the county rolls, which he claims he was previously on.

With 30 minutes until the polls closed at 8 p.m., an official in Doylestown said he could come to the courthouse and vote. A feat which he knew was not possible.

Outside the polling place, McAnally spoke with Rep. John Galloway. The state representative told the young military man to stop by his office this week to make sure the problem can be resolved so it could "never happen again."

The disappointed McAnally said he had just hoped to vote Tuesday night at his new polling place in the Levittown section of the township.

A similar issue was also reported at a precinct in Bensalem.

County election officials were not available for comment Tuesday evening.

This is his fault for not registering at his new address. There's a reason you vote at different places based on where you live. This is basic knowledge as a citizen. This shouldn't even be news...Man screws up and doesn't register at his new address. It happens all the time. You make it sound like he was being disenfranchised.Laws apply to soldiers too.And why was he showing up in uniform? Was he on duty? Was he expecting an attack?Or was his mom doing all of his laundry?

Everyone knows you have to re-register when you move or how would he have known where to go vote? It does suck for him but its his own fault. Hope he was a democrat lol.

Was he away? you know protecting the right to vote as an example? I doubt he voted D because he needs his job and those jobs are being cut now. Either way its a shame a man in the milatary not able to vote for the king of the country he is protecting. shame

I would like to say it was amazing watching these future Hall of Famers at 8 years old fightingRead More through the weather and playing the 5 games in 2 days. They were tougher than many of the adults! I remember my days with Levittown American Little League playing in the 8-9 year old division and these boys would have taken us out! It would not have been close. Great Job to all and Congrats to Team Neshaminy...do you know how hard it is to say that as a Pennsbury Grad? I look forward to the next tournament!
