Tullytown Council Fills 2 Positions On Police Force

Fireworks and food for the Tullytown Borough Picnic also approved.

The Tullytown Council decides to fill two open police positions during a meeting Tuesday night.

Every Tullytown resident who spoke during the meeting asked council members to fill two open part-time positions on the police force.

They got their wish. The council voted unanimously for Shawn Lyons and Ryan Murphy to take those spots. Residents in the room were ecstatic and it was evident from the applause that echoed.

Also a hot topic of discussion, was an injured Tullytown police chief. He was injured while serving his community and among residents at the meeting, there seemed to be a consensus for him to receive full benefits.

“The chief is getting 100 percent of his pay. I can guarantee that," Tullytown Council President Bryan Servis said.

Conversely, many arguments broke out during the council meeting.

The most noticeable was an argument between Council Vice President Richard Adams and Councilman E.F. Armstrong about the way Armstrong received some information.

“I didn’t receive it from you," Armstrong responded.

Adams did not seem to like the answer calling Armstrong a “bold-faced liar.”

It was not immediately clear what the information or underlying issue was.

All of the issues that were discussed Tuesday evening would impact the community. Only one issue was tabled -- the adoption of resolution setting forth compensation for the borough manager.

The issues that passed were approval of the fireworks for the Tullytown Borough Picnic, along the food portion and the funnel cakes for the picnic. The winning bid for the food portion was Billy Davis Barbeque while D&M fireworks won the bid for the fireworks. They also approved the $500 donation to the St. Michaels School's D.A.R.E. Graduation Program.
