Wednesday Is Air Quality Action Day

High ozone levels expected Wednesday.

The Air Quality Partnership said high ozone levels are expected across the region as levels shift from moderate to unhealthy on Wednesday.

Clear skies, northwesterly transport, and warm air transfer are all key ingredients for poor air quality. Hot temperatures and increasing dew points will also play a role in keeping ozone concentrations high for the next few days.

Code Orange Alert Day is called when air pollution levels are predicted to become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Code Orange levels are between 101 and 150 on the Air Quality Index.  Wednesday is predicted to have a peak level of 105.

Thursday will feature clear skies but the dew point will continue rising. On Friday, a cold front will arrive by late afternoon. It is possible that ozone levels will remain at Code Orange levels, but they are more likely to dip down to moderate.

The Air Quality Partnership said sensitive people should protect their health by limiting strenuous outdoor activities.

The organization also said people can help prevent air pollution by taking transit, refueling their vehicle at night and conserving energy in their homes.
