Bristol Township School District Plans To Furlough 11 Teachers

Bristol Township School District will furlough 11 teachers in the upcoming school year due to changes in enrollment.

Bristol Township School District will furlough 11 teachers in the upcoming school year due to changes in enrollment.  The number has been reduced from 15 due to four retirements.

Reduced positions include three special education teachers, one English- as- a- second- language teacher, three math teachers, six elementary school teachers and one art teacher.  The District attributed the furloughs to a decline in class size and course selection in some areas, and a reduction in its special needs population.

In a letter to employees, District Superintendent Samuel Lee said, "Our first commitment is to maintain the quality of our instruction. Admittedly, this will be more difficult given today’s developments. Our greatest regret is we are losing effective, talented and highly motivated teachers."

The reductions will affect the 2012-13 school year.
