“The district has hosted other internet safety programs through the years,” Peggy Gale, coordinator of Student Assistance at Neshaminy School District, said in an e-mail. “However since technology has made many advances it is important to revisit this topic and give parents the information they need to help keep their children safe.”

According to Gale, the co-presidents of the Pearl Buck Elementary School’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO conceived of the program. In order for all parents of the Neshaminy school community to benefit from the discussion, Gale said that the PTO reached out to both the district’s superintendent and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, which regularly provides such discussions about youth Internet safety.

Gale emphasized that the ever-changing online environment may present challenges for parents of younger children, and that this discussion will be specifically catered for them.

“Technology is being used by elementary and middle school children and it is important that parents have access to the same information about this technology so that they can be available to guide their children and steer them away from the dangers of the digital world,” Gale said.
