Neshaminy, Truman Students Vie For $5K In Competition

TruMark Financial awards $500 grant to Truman High School business education teacher Tom Hipple.

Two local students were among those competing in the 4th Annual Financial Jeopardy Game competing for a $5,000 scholarship award.

TruMark Financial hosted the competition, testing nine students’ knowledge in all matters relating to personal finance such as banking, credit, taxes, budgeting, and investments.

One high school senior from Abington, Colonial, Bensalem, Bristol, Philadelphia, Radnor, Upper Dublin, Neshaminy, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia participated in the event at the Buck Hotel in Feasterville on Wednesday evening.

TruMark Financial awarded three scholarships -- a $5,000 grand prize, a $2,000 second prize, and a $1,000 third prize – for students who fared best in the Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy, and Final Jeopardy rounds of the game.

Truman High School student Raul Rodrigues and Neshaminy High School student Scott Morantz were among the local contenders. But in the end, it was Edward Ross, of Roman Catholic High, who prevailed as the ultimate Jeopardy winner. Ross accepted a $5,000 check from Richard Stipe, CEO of TruMark Financial.

TruMark Financial also awarded a $500 grant to Truman High School business education teacher Tom Hipple. The funds will be used to purchase textbooks and Virtual Business Personal Finance -- a computer simulation program to teach students how to manage their money.

The Financial Jeopardy Game is an extension of the financial literacy programs that TruMark Financial supports and promotes throughout the region, according to a news release.
